NYFW Spring 2016 Brightest Street Style Moments

Fashion

While the Fashion Week runway shows capture all the attention, it is the styles seen on the streets that really reels us in. Each and every show attracts some of the most fashionable of It girls, who cannot but appear in the most fitting and appropriate of outfits in line with the latest fashions and often in brands matching the shows they deem fit to attend. New York Fashion Week has been first on the list, with London to follow next, where we expect some incredible shows with the most astoundingly dressed of audiences. The British are as in tune with their fashion as are the French and Italians.

So what exactly have the past few days of New York Fashion Week spring 2016street fashion consisted of?

NYFW Spring 2016 Street Style

• Slits up the thighs are a common enough thing.

• Skirts are either minis or falling past the knees for the most part.

• There are some gorgeous long vests with trouser sets that we have noticed are prominent on the runways this season as well.

• Black seems to be a big color block to work with.

• Denim coveralls and pants make their own appearance as an ode to the ‘70s.

• Transparency and suede, along with black leather, combine with the denim for an all-out ‘70s theme, the biggest trend of the 2015 seasons that has also slowly seeped into 2016 it appears.

• There is a bit more of a casual aspect to the street style, including the combination of sweaters and miniskirts, polo shirts with denim, jean shorts and dresses.

• Black and white options offer an optical illusion with stripes at different angles utilized on one particular long sleeved dress with matching thick-heeled ankle strapped d’Orsay.

• If you are going to be glamorous, it only makes sense to wear dresses and shoes that are star spangled and looking fine.

One particular sweater that stands out is one with patches stitched on claiming that she is a radical feminist and that she values gender equality. Political and social messages are not new to the fashion world so it would make sense to see something of this calibre appear. Handbags appearing on the streets were often of intriguing looks as well, some with fur hanging off in an attempt to match up with the FW 2015 trends. Tassels, fringe and interesting accessories keep us intrigued throughout. Despite the cooler weather, many did not pick up a jacket, nor did they switch out of the sandals that are clearly worn with love. Between pleated pieces, denim pants, knit corded sweaters, thin belts, center slit skirts and oversized sunglasses, this was a rather Americanized version to street style, with only a few more chic and sophisticated looks out from the runway.

One particular look we fell in love with includes a bright pink top tucked into a side-tie waist pinstriped pair of trousers, one shoulder peeking through a mass of pink ruffles cascading down her side and looking positively fabulous. Then again, it was fun to see a crisp white tee tucked into a pleated leather skirt with a rather well rounded bust drawn onto the chest region, effectively saying I’m naked while still protecting my body from the colder breeze out. While some had a slightly sexier feel to the outfits, others looked bedraggled and not quite as lovely as one would expect the crowd to be during the New York Fashion Week days.

Harper’s Bazaar ‘Icons’ Party Closes NYFW

Fashion

As the abounding New York Fashion Week spring 2016 has come to its end, all the “participants” of the event wish for one thing only – rest! But the wish goes secondary, when an influential figure like Carine Roitfeld organizes a huge event like Harper’s Bazaar “Icons” Party in Plaza Hotel and invites them to it. Famous celebrities, It girls, designers and just beauties attended the party dedicated to Roitfeld’s Sept. 2015 “Icons” portfolio for Harper’s Bazaar shot by the iconic fashion photographer Jean Paul Goude. The portfolio includes fabulous photos of such celebrity as Oprah, Mariah Carrey, Dakota Johnson and Katy Perry. The party was especially thrilling, as Miss Perry appeared there not only as a center figure of the portfolio shots, but as a musical guest as well. Wearing a chic R’n’B inspired Phillip Treacy for Alexander McQueen butterfly dress first and then changing into a performance outfit of B. Akerlund gown, the style diva left everyone jaw-dropped singing hits like “Roar” and “Teenage Dream”.

Of course, the event had a special dress code – “Fantasy Evening Attire”. One after another, the attendees were arriving donning the most exquisite gowns ever. Most of the guests were the models that make up the chief part of any fashion week. Gigi Hadid with her sister Bella, Kendall Jenner, Doutzen Kroez, Alessandra Ambrosio, Lily Donaldson, Anna Cheveland were among the runway divas who looked as fabulous as on magazine covers. The cameras could not but demonstrate the elegance of the long white halter-neck dress on Kendall, or the long-sleeve black-and-white short dress (from the H&M x Balmain collection, by the way) that sat on Gigi like a second skin. Among the most famous celeb guests were Rita Ora in a flattering black gown, Kate Upton, Mariah Carrey and Bella Thorne, who wore no less swanky outfits (all in black, as well) shining at the party like stars. Of course, such fashion figures as Prabal Gurung and Jason Wu were also among the very important guests, which made the gathering even more filled with couture vibe. The hostess Carine herself looked fantastic in a silver sequin gown and bold torn-up tights.

The atmosphere there was an eccentric mixture of high-fashion, evening elegance and fun! Yes, I mean it. It was a real party with all drinks, songs, dances and stuff to make the closing of New York Fashion Week as memorable and sleek as possible. Accompanied by the crazy lights and music, everyone was dressing in sparkles and having a party to the fullest next to the bar. An hour before the event would finish, Harper’s Bazaar debuted a short movie-clip, which showed the behind-the-scenes shots and gave the idea of how the portfolio was made. Only after this Katy appeared on stage and performed her five-song strand, during which she sent heart-warming and sometimes funny-sarcastic messages like when she said that the song “I kissed a girl” was for Mariah Carrey for her opening way to many artists. Although she never stood up from her seat, she definitely got the heat. Anyway, we could not imagine a party with all camera-lovers in to go without scandals or intrigues. The show was a loud one, which served as a defining full stop to the fashion fuss we have been the evidence of lately.

Spring-Summer 2015 Womens Louis Vuitton Ad Campaign

Louis Vuitton

louis_vuitton_ss15-womens-ad-campaign1If there’s an award for most print ads launched in single season, the winner would be Louis Vuitton, with Nicolas Ghesquière calling upon not 1, not 2 but 3 of his photographer friends (Annie Leibovitz, Juergen Teller and Bruce Weber) to return with Series 2, with each of the photographers interpreting the collection in a different locale.

Annie Leibovitz, for example, photographed Freja Beha in New York City. Juergen Teller worked with 4 different models and used a Parisian townhouse as the backdrop. And of course, there’s Bruce Weber who shot actress Jennifer Connelly in Miami for his contribution to the campaign.

Then there are the other stars of the campaign which you’ll see in almost every image, hanging from the model’s hands, being cradled or just sitting quietly by themselves. Yes, I’m talking about the bags from the S/S15 collection, most of which I had the pleasure of meeting when I was up in Bangkok for the press preview last month. And because it would be too long a post if I were to devote a full review to each piece, here’s a quick rundown first of what’s coming up for the season, with dedicated posts later for those of you keen on specific styles.

louis_vuitton_ss15-womens-ad-campaign2Left: Still not exactly sure what that is since I didn’t see this bag during the preview. Armoured breast plate? Xena’s shield? Only time will tell. Right: The Malletage Twist comes in quilted leather with a long shoulder chain that can be worn long or short. In other words, an alternative to everyone’s favourite bag from Chanel.

louis_vuitton_ss15-womens-ad-campaign3Left: Another variation of the Twist but with more streamlined (read: less puffy) sides. This one comes in exotic croc (read: will cost you an arm and 2 legs). Want a more affordable option? Have, but more on that later. Right: Meet the Dora Souple in coated canvas, not in brown and beige, but in the new colour combination of black and red. Divine, no?

louis_vuitton_ss15-womens-ad-campaign4Left: The Dora Souple (again) but in Monogram Canvas that’s trimmed with white leather. Another beauty. Right: Remember the more affordable of the Twist I was talking about earlier? Here it is in Epi treated to look like denim (interesting, right?). In Bleu or Noir that’s actually more grey.

louis_vuitton_ss15-womens-ad-campaign5Left: Another shot of the Malletage Twist, this time in the hands of actress Jennifer Connelly. Right: We all know how much of a runaway hit the Petite Malle was, so here it is for the new season in a new style. Meet the new Petite Malle Foldover that has the same front clasp as the Petite Malle but in a fluffier leather body.

louis_vuitton_ss15-womens-ad-campaign6Left: Half-holding, half-cradling, the Petite Malle will be back this season in Epi and exotic croc. Lush. Right: Model standing on chair with Dora Souple. Random much?

louis_vuitton_ss15-womens-ad-campaign7Left: Jennifer Connelly again with the Twist Stripes. Same bag, but treated with strips of leather in different colours. Right: So beautiful she deserves her own ad, the Twist in Epi Denim leather. Love.
